When you trade and Zerodha sends you the ledger report, do you ever wonder, when does Zerodha charge brokerage fees? Is it just for a particular trading segment or is it for every segment?

The answer is, Zerodha does not charge for every trading segment. If you are trading in the ‘equity delivery’ segment, you don’t have to pay any brokerage charges to Zerodha. But apart from this, if you trade in any other segment, you will have to pay some brokerage charges.

But what are these charges? Let us have a quick look.

Zerodha Brokerage Charges

Zerodha lets you trade across various segments and barring the delivery segment, it levies brokerage charges on all. The details of the same are given below.

Equity intraday – Zerodha charges Flat ₹20 or 0.03% (whichever is lower) on your intraday trades. Suppose, Sagar bought 10 shares at ₹100/share, then at the end of the trading day, he sells all of them at ₹120/share.

In this case, you can calculate the brokerage charges as follows.

Brokerage fee = 0.03% of ₹2200 =  ₹0.66

Since the charges are less than ₹20, in this case, you will have to pay ₹0.66.

Now, suppose Sagar bought 100 shares at ₹1000/share and later sold them for ₹1020/share. The brokerage charges for the same are as follows.

Brokerage fee = 0.03% of 202000 = ₹60.6

Since the price is exceeding ₹20, the brokerage, in this case, would be ₹40 (₹20 for the buy side+ ₹20 for the sell-side)

Equity Futures- If you are trading in the equity futures segment, you will have to pay 0.03% or ₹ 20/executed order whichever is lower.

Equity Options- A lot of people have now shifted to option trading and if you are one of them, you will have to pay flat ₹ 20 per executed order.

Currency Futures & Options- There are a few currencies in which you can trade in India, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY. The brokerage charges for the same are 0.03% or Rs. 20/executed order whichever is lower.

Commodity Futures & Options– Zerodha also gives you a chance to trade in various agricultural and non-agricultural commodities. You will be charged 0.03% or ₹ 20/executed order whichever is lower for the same.

So, Zerodha charges brokerage for equity intraday, equity futures, equity options, currency futures, currency options, commodity futures, and commodity options but it lets you trade without any brokerage in the equity delivery segment. Now if anytime you get confused about, when does Zerodha charge brokerage, you will have all your answers.
