Are you planning to close your Sharekhan demat account and switch to Zerodha but have some shares left in your demat account? Then, it is important for you to note that you can transfer these shares to your new demat account. Let us, therefore, talk about how to transfer shares from Sharekhan to Zerodha?
If you want to close your demat account with Sharekhan, and move your existing shares to Zerodha, you need to follow the given steps.
- Close your Sharekhan demat account and submit a closure cum transfer form and CMR copy from Zerodha to Sharekhan.
- If you don not have the CMR copy, you can request it online on Zerodha console. This CMR copy has all the details of your Zerodha account, which includes client ID, DP ID, etc.
- You also have to submit a copy of DIS slip received from Sharekhan to your existing stockbroker (Sharekhan).
After the completion of this process, it usually takes 2-3 days for the entire transfer of shares.
If you have a CDSL Sharekhan demat account, you can register on EASIEST and then transfer the shares online. Since Zerodha is also registered with CDSL, this would be an intra-depository transfer. In case of a NSDL account, it is a inter-depository transfer.
In case you don’t want to close your Sharekhan demat account, you can still transfer your shares to Zerodha.
- Fill all the necessary details like your demat account number, DP ID, etc in the Delivery Instruction Slip (DIS) issued by Sharekhan.
- If you have a CDSL Sharekhan demat account, select intra-depository transfer, for NSDL, select inter-depository transfer.
- Submit this duly-filled DIS to your broker.
After this, the transfer of shares usually takes 2-3 days.
